Jonathan Anderson Takes the Helm as Artistic Director of Dior Menswear
After an impressive 11-year tenure at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson has been appointed the new artistic director of Dior menswear. This significant transition follows Kim Jones’s departure from the brand earlier this year in January.
A New Chapter for Dior
The announcement regarding Anderson’s new role was made during LVMH’s annual general meeting, where Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault confirmed that the designer would unveil his inaugural Dior Men collection at the highly anticipated show scheduled for 27 June.
Anderson’s Impressive Legacy at Loewe
Jonathan Anderson, who began his journey as creative director of Loewe in September 2013, was then a budding designer at just 29 years old. His own brand, JW Anderson, which he established in 2008, garnered LVMH’s attention, leading to their minority investment in his venture in 2013. Throughout his time at Loewe, Anderson continually pushed creative boundaries, delivering innovative shows, collaborations, and memorable campaigns.
Transforming Loewe into a Luxury Powerhouse
Under Anderson’s leadership, Loewe evolved into one of the fashion industry’s most sought-after luxury brands. His Spring/Summer 2025 show garnered a standing ovation from prominent designers and industry figures, including Sarah Burton and Pharrell Williams, solidifying his reputation. Financially, Loewe’s sales skyrocketed from approximately €230 million in 2014 to an estimated €1.5 billion to €2 billion in 2024, showcasing his remarkable impact on the brand.
Transition and New Beginnings
Anderson’s departure from Loewe was confirmed in March, with Proenza Schouler’s founders, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, stepping in to continue the brand’s legacy. The question remains: can Anderson replicate his success at Dior Men, particularly during a period of luxury market challenges?
Dior’s Position Amidst Economic Shifts
Dior, like many of its competitors, has felt the repercussions of the luxury downturn and global uncertainties. Recent reports indicate a 5% decline in the sales of LVMH’s fashion and leather goods division during the first quarter, with Dior’s performance slightly trailing the division’s average. Nevertheless, the brand retains its status as a megabrand, reporting sales of €8.7 billion in 2024, a decrease from €9.48 billion in 2023.
Anderson’s Design Philosophy and Future at Dior
Renowned for his conceptual and accessible collections, Anderson is known for blending functionality with art. His disciplined work ethic and creative brilliance are expected to align seamlessly with the esteemed Dior DNA, setting the stage for an exciting new era in menswear.
