Experience the Next Level: A Look at the AirPods Pro 3
The newly released AirPods Pro 3 represent a significant upgrade over their predecessor, the AirPods Pro 2. While Apple has consistently enhanced features over the past three years, the design and shape have remained unchanged since the original model launched in 2019. The real improvements in the AirPods Pro 3 are predominantly internal. After my hands-on experience following the iPhone 17 launch, I’ve explored features like enhanced active noise cancellation, live translation, and heart-rate monitoring.
Enhanced Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
Apple claims that the ANC in the AirPods Pro 3 blocks double the noise compared to the AirPods Pro 2 and quadruple that of the original model. This improvement is largely due to advanced ultra-low noise microphones and innovative computational audio technology. Additionally, the newly designed foam-infused ear tips significantly enhance passive noise isolation, effectively minimizing distractions, including high-frequency sounds like conversation.
Live Translation: A Game Changer
After Apple teased the Live Translation feature during the iOS 26 announcement, many had anticipated its inclusion in the next version of the AirPods. The AirPods Pro 3 utilize a connected iPhone for processing translation, simplifying user interaction. Users can effortlessly activate this feature by pressing both AirPods or using Siri. Notably, this function will also be available on other models equipped with the H2 chip.
Heart-Rate Monitoring for Fitness Enthusiasts
Another standout feature of the AirPods Pro 3 is the heart-rate monitoring capability, first showcased in the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2. Using a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor, these earbuds provide real-time heart rate stats during workouts. However, this information is limited to the Fitness app, which may disappoint those wanting broader accessibility across other applications. During my brief trials, the results were promising, displaying heart rate alongside other workout metrics.
Improved Audio Quality
Apple’s focus on audio performance continues with a redesigned venting system in the AirPods Pro 3, aimed at optimizing sound quality. The new ear tips provide a more direct audio pathway into the ears, complemented by Adaptive EQ technology. As a result, users can expect deeper bass and a more expansive soundstage, making for an immersive listening experience.
Impressive Acoustic Design
To facilitate improved airflow, Apple has introduced fine-tuned audio chambers within the AirPods Pro 3, significantly increasing the size of the vent on the earbuds. This engineering adjustment is designed to enhance the acoustics and enable more precise sound delivery. The upgraded drivers and transducers also play a vital role in achieving rich sound quality and clarity.
Availability and Pricing
The AirPods Pro 3 are now available for preorder at a price of $249, accessible through Apple, Amazon, and various retailers. They will officially launch on September 19, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 17 series and new Apple Watches. If you’re looking for high-quality audio, effective noise cancellation, and advanced features, the AirPods Pro 3 are a compelling choice for tech enthusiasts.
