Transforming Education: The Crown Heights Scholarship Fund
With the recent passage of the Education Choice for Children Act (ECCA) by the federal government, a unique opportunity has emerged for taxpayers across the United States. Starting in 2027, individuals will have the chance to redirect up to $1,700 of their federal taxes to the Crown Heights Scholarship Fund.
A New Way to Direct Your Taxes
Instead of sending that portion to the IRS, this initiative allows taxpayers to contribute directly to a registered Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO), specifically the Crown Heights Scholarship Fund. This program, endorsed by all schools in Crown Heights, fosters unity and collaboration within the community.
Tax Benefits That Matter
The IRS offers a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions made through this program. Essentially, your overall tax bill remains unchanged, but your money now directly supports tuition scholarships for families within the community, making a tangible difference in local education.
Who Can Benefit from the Fund?
Families in Crown Heights with a household income of less than $280,000 will be eligible for tuition assistance. As more taxpayers get involved, the potential scholarship dollars could reach millions each year, enhancing the available support for individual children.
Key Dates and Participation
The ECCA takes effect in 2027, just 18 months away. During this time, families and community members are encouraged to pledge that if they have a federal tax liability in 2027, they will redirect it to the Crown Heights Scholarship Fund. Importantly, individuals from anywhere in the U.S. can participate and enjoy the tax credit.
