KINGSTON, Jamaica – The highly anticipated national finals of the 2025 Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition will take place on Saturday, August 2, at the Independence Village in the National Indoor Sports Centre, Kingston, starting at 8:30 pm. This prestigious event will showcase the talent and cultural heritage of Jamaica as 13 contestants compete for the crown.
A Celebration of Jamaican Culture
The annual competition, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport through the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), aims to celebrate the rich culture of Jamaica. According to Festival Queen chairperson, Glenette Sinclair, this year’s theme is ‘The Jamaican Woman: Proud and Bold,’ reflecting the strength and vibrancy of Jamaican women.
Changes in Contestant Eligibility
This year, the competition has made significant changes by increasing the age limit for contestants from 25 to 30. Sinclair noted that this adjustment has made the event more inclusive, allowing a wider range of participants. The Miss Westmoreland contestant, who is over 25, stands as a testament to the success of this initiative, representing the diverse stories of Jamaican women.
What to Expect at the Finals
During the coronation show, audiences can expect to see the contestants showcase their poise in evening wear and demonstrate their talents through various performances. Sinclair emphasized that the competition remains focused not just on beauty but on cultural representation, encouraging the young women to embody different facets of Jamaican traditions, including food, dance, and music.
Engaging the Youth in Culture
Sinclair reiterated the importance of the Festival Queen Competition in fostering awareness and appreciation of Jamaican culture among the youth. “By ensuring these young women represent authentic Jamaican culture, we aim to preserve our traditions for future generations,” she stated. The festival has evolved from a simple beauty pageant to a dynamic celebration of culture, making it more relevant than ever.
