Khailah Griffin: A Dream Realized in Science and Pageantry
A research technician at Mass General Hospital is gaining national recognition, redefining the limits of ambition and achievement.
Life in the Lab
Khailah Griffin serves as a research technician in the Jaffer Lab at Mass General Hospital, specializing in interventional cardiology. “I assist all of the post-docs in our lab and perform small animal surgeries for research purposes,” Griffin explains.
Her Dual Role as Miss Massachusetts
When she steps outside the lab, Griffin transitions from scrubs to a glamorous sash and crown. “Tada! This is my lovely sash, and here is my crown,” she joyfully announces. Crowned Miss Massachusetts in June, Griffin is now set to compete in the Miss America pageant.
A Dream Come True
“Every picture of me, I’m sobbing. There were so many emotions going through my head. It’s an incredible feeling. I still wake up wondering, is this real? It’s a dream come true for me,” she adds, reflecting on her title.
Representing Massachusetts
Griffin is excited about competing in Miss America this September, a title that has never been won by anyone from Massachusetts. “That would be an honor in itself. I’m thrilled to show the country what Massachusetts is made of—we are the best state!” Griffin exclaims.
Athlete and Scholar
Beyond pageantry, Griffin excels as a Division I track athlete from Northeastern University, showcasing her ability to thrive under pressure. As she prepares for the Miss America stage, she is also gearing up to start a master’s program in medical sciences at Brown University, aiming to enter medical school afterward.
Passion for Medicine
Griffin’s journey into medicine is deeply personal. “Many of my close family members have experienced challenges within the medical system. I want to be that physician who makes a difference, especially in resource-limited communities,” she shares.
The Importance of Support
Griffin credits her success to the unwavering support from her family and friends. “My parents, my friends, and my family have my back,” she says, emphasizing the team behind her.
Advocacy and Talent
As Miss Massachusetts, Griffin uses her platform to raise awareness for the American Heart Association and advocate for homelessness in the state. Additionally, she will showcase her talent for the Miss America competition by playing the piano.
