Brenda Lou (Grigsby) Simon, a beloved figure in her family and community, passed away in Indianapolis on Friday evening, surrounded by those she cherished most. Her life was characterized by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Early Life and Education
Born on May 21, 1965, in Batesville, Indiana, Brenda was the daughter of James and Helen Grigsby. Growing up in Delaware, Indiana, she shared her childhood with her brothers and sister. Brenda graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1983, an early indication of her strong sense of community and belonging.
A Lifelong Commitment to Community
On April 4, 1992, Brenda married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Simon. Their union was a testament to enduring love and highlighted Brenda’s commitment to her roots. A lifelong member of the Delaware Community Church, her faith played a significant role in her life, guiding her values and actions in the community.
Family First
Brenda’s family was always her highest priority. As a devoted caregiver to her parents, she ensured that her children received the love and attention they needed. Brenda took immense pride in her role as a homemaker, creating a warm and nurturing environment for her loved ones.
Hobbies and Interests
Outside of her family responsibilities, Brenda enjoyed a variety of activities that brought her joy. She loved visiting yard sales, engaging in competitive games of bingo and euchre, and trying her luck at the casino. Additionally, Brenda found entertainment in crime shows and reality TV, especially her favorite, Big Brother.
The Joy of Grandmotherhood
The arrival of her grandchildren brought an abundance of joy into Brenda’s life. She relished the opportunity to make Christmas special for them and cherished her role as a loving grandmother, always present and involved in their lives.
A Legacy of Love
Brenda will be profoundly missed by her devoted husband, Wayne Simon, her children: Shawn (Sam) Ison, DJ (Brittany) Simon, Logan (Hannah) Simon, Jacob Simon, and Alisha McCreary, her parents James and Helen Grigsby, her brother Terry (Donna) Grigsby, her sister Becky Coleman, and her beloved grandchildren: Aubree, Trevor, Peyton, Grayson, Liam, and Callie. She was preceded in death by her brother Jeff Grigsby and her in-laws, Donald and Ola Vae Simon.
Services and Commemorations
Visitation for Brenda will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Tim Osborne.
