Madison Whitbeck Crowned Miss Virginia 2023
Loudoun native Madison Whitbeck has made a significant mark in the world of pageantry, achieving her largest title to date—Miss Virginia. At just 20 years old, Whitbeck’s journey began at age 17 when she first entered the Miss America organization, earning several prestigious crowns along the way.
College Student with a Passion for Music
A graduate of Riverside High School, Whitbeck is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music with a focus on vocal performance and music business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Her dedication to both education and the arts exemplifies her commitment to personal growth.
A Surprising Start in Pageantry
Whitbeck initially hesitated to enter the pageantry world, feeling uncertain about the experience. However, after being encouraged by friends, she decided to compete and won the title of Miss Loudoun County Teen in her first attempt. “I had never competed in a pageant. I barely knew what to expect,” she recalled.
Climbing the Ranks
In early 2024, Whitbeck earned the title of Miss Northern Virginia and later achieved fourth runner-up at the Miss Virginia competition. She then secured the title of Miss Arlington, which allowed her to compete in this June’s Miss Virginia round, culminating in her recent success.
The Competitive Pageant Experience
The competition included a series of evaluations such as a private interview, an on-stage question, an evening gown walk, a fitness demonstration, and a talent performance. Throughout the week, contestants were narrowed down to a top ten and ultimately a top five. “It gets nerve-wracking when you realize how talented everyone is,” Whitbeck expressed.
Commitment to Community and Education
Winning Miss Virginia comes with responsibilities that require her to take a year off from school to fulfill her duties, which Whitbeck describes as essentially a full-time job. One significant aspect of her role includes the Virginia ABC school tour, where she’ll visit over 70 elementary schools to promote healthy choices regarding drugs and alcohol.
Advocating for Arts Education
Whitbeck has initiated a community service project titled Arts for All, aimed at expanding access to arts education for students across Virginia. Drawing from her own experiences in theater and music, she is passionate about ensuring that all students have the chance to explore creative avenues.
The Transformative Impact of the Miss America Organization
Through her involvement with the Miss America organization, Whitbeck has gained confidence and leadership skills that she believes will aid her aspirations to become a prominent figure in music, akin to Carrie Underwood. “This opportunity has transformed me into a woman who knows how to lead without limits,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to pushing boundaries and creating new opportunities.
