Anouska Black to Compete in International United Miss Pageant
A beauty queen from Co Down, Anouska Black, is set to represent the United Kingdom at the International United Miss pageant next week in Orlando, Florida. This exciting competition highlights beauty, talent, and advocacy, and Anouska is determined to make an impactful statement.
At 36 years old, Anouska has dedicated over a decade to raising awareness about endometriosis. Diagnosed at the age of 19, she has transformed her personal struggles into an opportunity to educate and empower others who suffer from this often-misunderstood condition.
Anouska’s journey began just three weeks after her 20th birthday, when she underwent surgery for a teratoma tumor that had engulfed her ovary. Following her initial surgery, she received a confirmed diagnosis of endometriosis. “Since then, I’ve had two more surgeries as the condition spread,” she explains. “It has affected my quality of life significantly.”
Through her platform “Just Chat Endo,” Anouska has been advocating for those afflicted by endometriosis. “When I entered pageantry, I realized the power of having a voice. There was little support for young women struggling as I did, especially a decade ago when social media was in its infancy,” she reflects.
Anouska has been honored with various titles throughout her pageantry career, including Ms Northern Ireland and Miss Congeniality, which have amplified her message about women’s health issues. She heads to Orlando on July 11 with excitement and determination, stating, “I was retired from pageantry, but the opportunity to compete again was too good to miss.”
In addition to her pageant endeavors, Anouska serves as an ambassador for Just A Chat NI, a mental health charity. She emphasizes the importance of addressing mental health within the context of chronic illness: “The toll endometriosis takes on mental well-being is often overlooked. People do not see the daily struggles, and I want to change that conversation.”
As an advocate for menstrual health, Anouska is also involved with Project P, providing free sanitary products to those in need. “With the rising cost of living, period products have become increasingly expensive. I aim to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and encourage open conversations about women’s health,” she asserts.
Anouska’s commitment to raising awareness about endometriosis and women’s health issues exemplifies her passion and drive to create change. As she prepares for the International United Miss pageant, her story serves as an inspiration for many, showcasing how beauty can indeed serve a higher purpose.
