TDP’s Urgent Meeting: Addressing Absences and Launching ‘Manchi Prabhutvam’
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) convened a significant extended meeting at its central office in Mangalagiri on Sunday. The urgency of this meeting underscored the party leadership’s commitment to involving all elected representatives, including MLAs, MLCs, MPs, Rajya Sabha members, and district leaders.
Low Turnout Raises Concerns
Despite a strong turnout from leaders in other party wings, the meeting faced a surprising absentee rate—56 out of 134 MLAs did not attend. Among those present, several reportedly signed the attendance sheet and left shortly after, raising eyebrows about their commitment to party initiatives.
Launch of ‘Manchi Prabhutvam’
The primary focus of this meeting was to set the stage for the state-wide campaign titled “Manchi Prabhutvam.” Scheduled to run from July 2 through the end of the month, the campaign aims to communicate the coalition government’s policies, particularly the newly unveiled “Super Six” welfare initiatives, to every household across the state.
Chief Minister’s Discontent
During the meeting, TDP Chief and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his displeasure regarding the high number of absentees. Reports indicated that approximately 15 MLAs were overseas on unscheduled foreign trips, with no definite return dates. The leaders who left early after signing in also drew criticism for their lack of engagement.
Consequences for Absentees
Although Chandrababu Naidu chose not to address the issue of absentees during the seven-hour session, he raised the matter immediately afterward. He questioned how so many representatives could neglect such a critical preparatory meeting for a major public outreach endeavor and warned that those who fail to serve their constituents might face repercussions in the next election.
Unacceptable Behavior from Elected Officials
The Chief Minister expressed frustration over extended foreign trips taken by elected officials, labeling such behavior as unacceptable. He noted that he had maintained a list of those who left midway through the meeting and reiterated that appropriate actions would be taken promptly.
Looking Ahead
As the TDP gears up for the “Manchi Prabhutvam” campaign, the focus remains on strengthening ties with the community and implementing the recently launched welfare programs. The attendance and commitment of MLAs will be crucial for the success of this initiative, highlighting the importance of accountability and responsiveness in political leadership.
