Qasimi’s 10th Anniversary Show: A Cultural Celebration in Milan
Setting the Scene at Sant’Eustorgio Cloisters
The Qasimi fashion show debuted in Milan on Sunday, with a striking installation at the Sant’Eustorgio Cloisters’ courtyard. Scaffolding arranged in a circle served as the centerpiece, contrasting its industrial design with delicate sheets of crinkled fabrics that danced in the morning breeze.
Artistic Contribution by Dala Nasser
Renowned Lebanese artist Dala Nasser crafted the installation, drawing from her roots and cultural heritage through her choice of materials, particularly textiles. This artistic touch enriched the atmosphere of the show, celebrating not only the brand’s 10th anniversary but also embodying a message of hope amidst the ongoing geopolitical challenges faced by the world.
A Call for Solidarity
In the current climate, where designers and individuals alike are seeking peace, creative director Hoor Al-Qasimi emphasized the importance of unity during difficult times. “It’s really a moment of being together and [in] solidarity during this difficult time,” she expressed backstage, setting an inspiring tone for the collection.
An Evolution of Qasimi’s Aesthetic
The collection showcased a softer, more organic approach that harmonized with the brand’s utilitarian ethos. It featured elegant designs such as a men’s jilbab-inspired shirt paired with fluid sartorial trousers and a collarless jacket complemented by matching pleated trousers. Additionally, women’s tunic dresses were artfully cut asymmetrically, resembling layered garments.
Crafting a Unique Narrative
Since taking the helm of Qasimi in 2019 after the untimely passing of her brother, founder Khalid, Hoor Al-Qasimi has been sculpting a distinct narrative for the brand. The collection integrated inventive elements, including openweave mohair crewnecks adorned with little stones, evoking the imagery of a fisherman’s net and its treasures. Intentional crinkles on nylon short-sleeved shirts and playful doodle stitching added a layer of creativity to the designs.
Redefining Versatile Wardrobes
The classic multipocketed shirts, jackets, and fishermen’s vests—core staples of Qasimi’s commercial offerings—were reimagined for contemporary wardrobes. These pieces were elongated into tunics and styled with tailored pants or pristine white shirts, all presented in an earthy color palette featuring tones of tan, chocolate brown, and rusty pink.
A Cultural Symphony and Powerful Finale
Described as “a celebration of hybrid cultures, memory, and dialogue,” the show culminated in a stunning finale. As the eclectic soundtrack reached its peak with “Khobs,” a track by Lebanese folk rock musician Issam Hajali focusing on inherited narratives and community identity, models gathered around the sculptural centerpiece, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
