2025 Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant Celebrates Youth Talent
MILWAUKEE — The annual 2025 Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant took place on Saturday, showcasing the extraordinary talents of African American youth. The event featured a vibrant mix of music, spoken word, and art, celebrating cultural heritage and personal achievement in the community.
A Celebration of Talent and Leadership
Participants in the pageant were evaluated on multiple criteria, including poise, personality, talent, and interview skills. The competition culminated in the crowning of two outstanding winners: Kamari Murray as Mister Juneteenth and Sydney Purifoy-Mahone as Miss Juneteenth. These titles reflect not only the individual talent of the winners but also their commitment to uplifting their community.

“My mom really motivated me to join,” said Murray. “I wanted to showcase the intersectionality and different possibilities that Black people have. I showcased my talents with art, and I’m able to speak about what I want to do with my life and how I can make a difference in the world.”

The pageant serves as an essential celebration of Milwaukee’s youth, enabling them to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills. “It’s crucial for everyone to see that we have very positive young people in our community,” remarked Tony Kearny, Executive Director of Northcott Neighborhood House and President of Juneteenth Milwaukee. “Our kids have an opportunity to let the world see who they are and what they can achieve.”
