Last month, Google unveiled the highly anticipated Material 3 Expressive design for Photos, and a key part of this redesign—the albums view—has officially launched on Android. Additionally, QR code sharing for albums is now accessible, following a previous announcement.
Revamped Albums Interface
The previous albums layout featured an “Add description” field along with buttons for sharing, adding photos, and ordering them below the album cover. This has been revamped, replaced with a sleek Material 3 Expressive toolbar. In the updated Edit view, you’ll find a docked toolbar that allows you to add photos, text, and locations—elements that were previously located in the top bar. Although the albums redesign incorporates several Material 3 Expressive components, the full-bleed design for covers has yet to be integrated. While the albums feature has received an upgrade, the entire Google Photos app hasn’t transitioned to the new design just yet. Users can expect updates to the rest of the app, including a redesigned editor interface, potentially rolling out later this month.
