Tesla Unveils Tow Package for 2024+ Model 3 in North America

Tesla has launched the highly anticipated tow package for the refreshed 2024+ Model 3 in North America. This marks the first time the tow package, previously available in Europe and the Asia-Pacific, is offered in the North American market.

Prior to this release, Tesla owners had to rely on third-party hitch options that lacked support for Tesla’s Tow Mode and other important features, potentially voiding their warranties. The new package is a welcome addition for those looking to enhance their vehicle’s utility.

Details of the Tow Package

The new tow package consists of a high-strength steel tow bar equipped with a standard 2-inch receiver and a 7-pin connector, along with a full trailer harness compatible with Tow Mode. According to Tesla, this hitch allows for towing up to 2,200 lbs (998 kg), which is less than the Model Y, Model S, and Model X, which can tow up to 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg).

For towing, users will need a 2-inch hitch and a compatible ball, which can be stored neatly beneath a panel that can be accessed with two plastic bolts. The package is priced at $1,300 USD or $1,765 CAD, and the installation is included in the cost, with parts shipped directly to a local Tesla service center.

Installation Process and Compatibility

The installation takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on whether additional harness wiring is necessary. This package is compatible exclusively with the 2024+ Model 3 in both RWD and AWD configurations; however, it is not available for the Performance model, likely due to space constraints caused by the larger rear motor.
