President Tinubu Advocates for Collaboration at Owa Haastrup’s Coronation
During a recent ceremony in Ilesa, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration between traditional authorities and government entities to achieve inclusive and sustainable development across Nigeria. His remarks were delivered at the coronation of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Haastrup, attended by prominent figures from various spheres.
The event attracted notable personalities, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and various former Vice Presidents. The grandeur of the occasion took place at the historic Obokungbusi Hall in Ilesa, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with cultural significance.
In his address, which was read by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s cultural diversity as a vital asset. He remarked, “Within our royal institutions, we find deep wells of wisdom, guardianship, and moral authority.” This statement reinforces the essential role traditional rulers play in fostering peace and harmony in their communities.
President Tinubu called for traditional leaders to continue their work as agents of unity, bridging the gaps between historical legacies and future aspirations. He articulated a vision for Nigeria where traditional rulers actively contribute to societal peace and progress, stating, “May your palace be a sanctuary of justice, dialogue, and service.”

Looking forward, the President called for stronger partnerships between traditional authorities and government at all levels. “Let us work hand in hand to confront the challenges facing our people,” he urged, advocating for changes that are tangible in schools, healthcare, and community development.
In his recognition of Owa Haastrup, President Tinubu praised the new monarch’s journey of service and commitment to leadership. He expressed confidence that under Owa Haastrup’s reign, the cultural heritage of Ijesaland would not only be preserved but also thrive.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke assured attendees that his administration would encourage public-private partnerships aimed at enhancing Ijesaland’s development. He announced plans to upgrade Ilesa General Hospital to a Teaching Hospital for the University of Ilesa, promising to transform the region into a center of medical excellence.

As the ceremony concluded, Owa Haastrup, donning traditional attire and a beaded crown, expressed his gratitude to the distinguished guests and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of his domain. The event not only celebrated the crowning of a new monarch but also set the stage for potential collaborations aimed at advancing the socio-economic landscape of Ijesaland.
