Government Urges Proactive Information Sharing Among Agencies
Shamima Muslim, Deputy Government Spokesperson
Importance of Timely Information
The Government is calling on agencies under the Office of Government Machinery (OGM) to enhance their online presence by activating their websites, social media handles, and information management systems. This initiative aims to deliver timely and accurate information to the public.
Launch of the 2024 Public Opinion Survey
Shamima Muslim, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, emphasized this directive during the launch of the 2024 Public Opinion Survey Report in Accra. The report assesses public perceptions regarding the activities and services of entities operating under the Office of the President.
Collaboration Among Agencies
While representing Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Muslim urged staff members of these entities to collaborate and minimize partisanship. The goal is to facilitate the collective achievement of their operational objectives.
Proactive Communication Required
Muslim stressed that OGM entities must be responsive to public inquiries. “We must actively communicate our mandates and services,” she stated, adding that everyone, not just political figures, should focus on the efficiency of the Office of Government Machinery.
Addressing Misinformation on Social Media
During her remarks, she expressed concern over findings from the 2024 Public Opinion research, which identified social media as a major source of information for citizens. Muslim questioned the credibility of such information, especially in light of the prevalence of misinformation online.
Commitment to National Development
Muslim reiterated the government’s commitment to national development, urging citizens to prioritize the country above political affiliations. “Ghana is the only country we have, and we must work together for our collective benefit,” she said, highlighting the importance of community effort in achieving the government’s resetting agenda.
Responding to False Publications
She highlighted recent false publications suggesting that significant funds were allocated for government propaganda, calling for the OGM agencies like the Information Services Department (ISD) and Ghana News Agency (GNA) to act swiftly to counter such misinformation.
Future Initiatives Based on Survey Results
As the new government settles in, the Office of the President plans to use the findings from the 2024 Survey as a foundation for enhancing public understanding of its initiatives. The OGM entities are encouraged to follow suit for the greater good of Ghana’s development.
