Zelda Games on Switch 2: No Cloud Save Support Explained

The highly anticipated Switch 2 Editions of the beloved Zelda games, including Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, have raised eyebrows among fans due to a significant feature omission: the inability to use cloud saves for data backup. This decision has left many gamers wondering about the reasoning behind it.

    The Cloud Save Controversy

On the online store pages for both Zelda titles, a clear disclaimer states, “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.” This information is crucial for players who wish to take advantage of cloud storage for their game saves, ensuring their progress is secure and easily accessible across devices.

Absence of Disclaimer for Other Titles

Interestingly, this cloud save disclaimer is not mentioned for other Switch 2 Edition titles such as Super Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, or Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This discrepancy raises the question: why are the Zelda games singled out in this regard? As of now, there is no clear answer as to why this limitation exists for these iconic franchises.

    Regional Differences in Information

Adding to the confusion, the cloud save disclaimer appears solely on the US and EU store pages. In contrast, the Japanese version indicates that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is necessary for accessing the save data storage service. This inconsistency in messaging may lead to further inquiries from fans across different regions regarding the cloud save situation.

    Impact on Gameplay Experience

This lack of cloud save support could significantly affect players. For example, as a user on ResetEra pointed out, while players can import their save files from the original Nintendo Switch to continue their adventures in the Switch 2 Editions, they won’t have the option to create new cloud backup files during their playthrough. This limitation extends even to those starting fresh saves on the new platform.

    Upgrades in Zelda Games

Despite this cloud save issue, the Zelda games on Switch 2 promise substantial upgrades. Enhanced visual performance, an updated app featuring achievements, and new equipment repair methods are some of the improvements players can expect. These enhancements aim to offer a more immersive gaming experience while enjoying these classic titles on next-gen hardware.

    Pricing and DLC Availability

In the UK, the improved Switch 2 Editions of the Zelda games are priced at £65, with all relevant data included on the game card. However, it’s important to note that Breath of the Wild will not contain the original game’s DLC, which may disappoint some fans who enjoyed the additional content on the original platform.

    Conclusion

As fans await more information, the absence of cloud save support for the Switch 2 Editions of Zelda raises critical questions about Nintendo’s intent and future plans. With a mix of excitement and confusion surrounding these updates, players remain eager to find out more about their favorite titles in this new console generation. Stay tuned as we await further clarifications from Nintendo regarding this issue.
